Nourishing routines for smoother and healthier skin is the goal for this generation. Unlike the 90s or early 2000s, nowadays, we are packed with state-of-the-art technologies and more efficient ways in achieving a healthy radiant look. These changes say goodbye to stinging pain from strong astringents before, or the greasy feels of the ointments for the face, or worse the burning and peeling lotions for the supposed poreless and brighter skin. We look back and see how it evolved through time, hence, achieving great skin still but without too much pain.
Social media plays a significant role in all of these changes which are brought by different trends from Western and Asian countries. The disparity in skincare products and make-ups between Asians and Westerners is apparent yet each style has complimented each of their unique features well. Even then, there are still inevitable changes of preferences no matter what race or country they’re from, the radiant snatched look must remain. In 2011-2013 the Korean 10-step-skincare routine hits popularity, same as the luminous skincare prep from some big brands in Western countries. These things paved the way as to how we look at beauty products nowadays.
Fresh-faced teens would subtly choose more natural products; eco-friendly, sustainable and no biting the bullet effects. Harmful preservatives and products that cause redness or have stinging effects are easily discouraged. Therefore, alleviating motivation for the makers to be more careful in creating high quality products.
MY POINTS
Current teen skincare practices really give rise to a more inclusive set of products. There are so many rising brands, both international and local, that offers varied options for countries in humid places or cold places, or people with acne-prone, sensitive, dry or oily skin. Most likely teens can have ton of choices from them, then curate their own routine into 3-5 step-skincare routine, deviating from the traditional 10-step-skincare routine, to save more time for other stuffs. This simple routine can include, cleansing, moisturizing, then SPF in the morning, and maybe throw in some niacinamide and light cream for the evening.
These practices are really good since the earlier they started the better, most especially this will help protect them from the harmful UV rays. I envy them for this, had I known earlier, I could’ve done the same. However, each era are set differently and still I appreciate the simplicity we had before.
Compared to the limited options before, GenZ’s are adept in dispelling misconceptions as well, on beliefs such as toothpaste can cure pimples, or papaya leaves can whiten skin, or lemon juice can brighten skin, and many others. These things might sound absurd but during my time, these are open secret beliefs to having stand out skin. It’s not very easy relying on just hearsays and gossips before (*facepalm), in contrast to just one click on Mr. Google nowadays, so convenient to do your research already. This helps aid on misconceptions and easily find proper explanation on things.
So many advantages brought by technology, hope these help this generation become more confident in themselves. Facing realities while making oneself comfortable and happy in one’s skin.
